Injuries are less common acromoclavicular joint separation, or AC, where the clavicle meets the acromion process of the scapula. It is a bony prominence at the top of the shoulder. Joint ligaments can be injured by falling into the elbow, shoulder or an outstretched arm. Symptoms can range in severity from mild pain to a complete rupture resulting bump joint where the collarbone sticks out of the neck.

Symptoms include pain and tenderness end of the clavicle, and pain when moving the shoulder joint, especially when raising the arm above the shoulder.

If the injury is minor partial separation, it can be treated with ice packs and rest. However, a more serious separation may need to be attached to in order to heal.
