SCIATICA is pain that radiates from the lower back down to the thighs, calves, ankles and feet either on one side or both sides of the foot. The pain can be “blunt” as cramps or “sharp” tingling and burning, continuous or intermittent but becoming more and more severe pain. The pain may increase when you sit, cough, sneeze or laugh. Instead, walk, lie down, and stretch your spine movements (such as the shrug) may reduce pain.

  • Pregnant woman: Sciatica usually occurs in pregnant women in the final trimester of pregnancy when the enlarging uterus presses the sciatic nerve. The pain usually disappears after delivery.
